Read that table twice. 1.2 kilograms of ice moved core temperature by 0.01°C — statistical noise. It didn’t significantly reduce heart rate or perceived exertion either. The theoretical case — chilling blood in the carotid arteries en route to the brain — isn’t fantasy. Modelling work finds meaningful arterial cooling is possible when the neck surface is held near 0°C: a temperature no wearable produces, over a contact area none matches. With real ice, it didn’t translate.
So when a review says a device works “by regulating your internal body temperature,” treat that as marketing language that survived into the copy. What these devices reliably deliver is localised skin cooling and a strong perceptual effect — nothing more.

Battery life is where the spec sheet lies to you
Every device here quotes a headline runtime achieved on its weakest setting. The REON POCKET PRO Plus is the clearest example: up to 34 hours on the lowest mode, but about 5.5 hours at maximum cooling — Sony’s own figure, though one reviewer got six to six-and-a-half. Recharging takes roughly 200 minutes, about 130 minutes to reach 90%.
Do the arithmetic for a real day. At 35°C you will run it at or near maximum, because that’s the only setting you’ll notice. So the honest spec is a bit over five hours of cooling followed by a three-hour recharge. That covers a commute and a lunch break. It does not cover a workday outdoors — which is exactly what the marketing imagery depicts.
TORRAS quotes around six hours at lower fan settings on the COOLiFY Air. RANVOO’s “up to 30 hours” is a low-power figure by its own reviewers’ admission.

When the cheap thing is the better buy
Once you accept that the premium device’s honest benefit is perceptual comfort, the competition looks different than it does in the ads.
- Dry heat, long duration, low budget → evaporative cooling towel. Powerful physics, a fraction of the price, no battery to run out.
